Doctoral dissertation defence




On 12 October, 2023, Captain Omar Zelmati, a member of the Algerian Armed Forces, defended his doctoral dissertation on the premises of the Division of Technical-Technological and Natural Sciences & Mathematics, Military Academy, University of Defence. The doctoral dissertation, in the field of electrical and computer engineering, was prepared during the doctoral academic studies, at the Military Electronic Engineering study programme.



The results of the dissertation were published in an international journal from the SCI list, Journal of Electrical Engineering, as well as at several meetings of international and national significance. The doctoral dissertation includes research in the field of subjective and objective assessment of the quality of compressed images from the infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The database that was created during the preparation of the doctoral dissertation enabled the quality of images analyses from the infrared part of the spectrum, where quality is of crucial importance for the detection, recognition and identification of objects, as well as the performance of activities in night conditions or in conditions of low visibility.



The dissertation was defended before a committee composed of: Colonel, Milenko Andrić, Full Professor, PhD in Engineering, Vladimir Petrović, Full Professor, PhD in Engineering (University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences), Colonel Ivan Tot, Associate Professor, PhD in Engineering, Colonel Boban Bondžulić, Associate Professor, PhD in Engineering and Colonel Boban Pavlović, Associate Professor, PhD in Engineering.
The public defence of the doctoral dissertation was also attended by the defence envoy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Belgrade.
