Celebration of the Day of University of Defence and the Day of Defence Inspectorate




Today, in the Crystal Hall of the Guard Club in the barracks “Topčider”, a celebration was held to mark the Day of University of Defence and Day of Defence Inspectorate which was attended by the Secretary General of the President of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Zoran Lazić, and Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Major General Petar Cvetković.
After the Mixed Choir of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces and Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binički” performed the national anthem, ensued reading of congratulatory messages of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić and the minister of defence Aleksandar Vulin on the occasion of the Day of University of Defence and Defence Inspectorate.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković congratulated the Day of University of Defence and Day of Defence Inspectorate to all their members and underlined the significance, place, and role of those two organisational units of the Ministry of Defence.

- The University of Defence with its process of education, training, scientific and research activity and preservation of historical values of the Serbian Armed Forces and the state of Serbia, represents one of the strategic foundations of defence system of the Republic of Serbia. By conducting inspections within its functional responsibilities, the Defence Inspectorate ensures full and precise indicators of the state of the defence system, and on the basis of that it creates conditions for decision makers to undertake measures for the enhancement of that very state – sent the message State Secretary Živković.

According to Dean of University of Defence Major General Goran Radovanović, they celebrated an anniversary of the establishment of the University of Defence “remembering the act which had a paramount state, national and social importance”.
- The University of Defence is first of all a scientific and research institution oriented towards thorough education of socially responsible people in the defence system. With all the difficulties, let us be aware that we are doing a noble and precious work for the Republic of Serbia and friendly countries, and that we have great, and challenging tasks ahead, and that the knowledge and education in the system of defence have always depended on patriotism and state of mind and spirit – General Radovanović said.

Director of Defence Inspectorate Major General Mile Jelić emphasised that the Defence Inspectorate cherished the values and that it continued the tradition of numerous inspection bodies from the previous periods.

- In the previous year, the members of the Defence Inspectorate carried out normative and legal organisation of inspection oversight and conducted planned and extraordinary tasks in accordance with decisions of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and the orders of the minister of defence – General Jelić stated.
At today’s ceremony, General Jelić presented a plaque of the Defence Inspectorate to Dean of University of Defence General Radovanović, the previous director of Defence Inspectorate and diplomas were also handed over to those who, in the last year, obtained the title of a Doctor of Science at the University of Defence.

The University of Defence, established on 24th February 2011, is an autonomous high educational institution which provides high education through academic studies of the first, second and third level in several scientific areas in the framework of education and scientific fields of social-humanities, technical and technological and medical sciences.

The Defence Inspectorate continues the tradition of inspection bodies established in the Kingdom of Serbia. This is the third year that it has celebrated its day in memory of 1911, when upon a Decree of the King Petar I Karađorđević, the Main Inspection of the Entire Military was established.
