Military Academy, University of Defence, celebrated its Saint Patron’ Day




On 14 October, the feast of the Intercession of Theotokos (Pokrov Presvete Bogorodice), in the chapel of the Military Academy, University of Defence, the Saint Patron’s Day (Slava) of the Military Academy, University of Defence was celebrated.



Holy Liturgy was served by His Holiness bishop of Liplje Dositej (Radivojević). The priests who participated in the service are as follows: archpriest-stavrophorus Milovan Glogovac, archpriest Đorđe Stajisavljević the head of the Cabinet of Serbian Patriarch, military priest of the Military Grammar School Captain Slavko Papić and military priest of the Land Forces 2nd Brigade Captain Vladan Vuković, deacon Nikola Kostić and Budimir Kokotović. The Holy Liturgy was accompanied by the chorus of the Military Academy, University of Defence.



The members of the University of Defence Rector’s Board and University of Defence Military Academy Commandant’s Board attended the Holy Liturgy, as well as the teachers, personnel, cadets of the Military Academy, University of Defence, students of the Military Grammar School and Military Vocational Secondary School “1300 Kaplara”.  
 
The cutting of bread (slavski kolač) was carried out after the Holy Liturgy. The bread was brought by Slava’s godfather Assisstant Professor Colonel Aleksandar Bukvić, PhD in engineering, and Assisstant Professor Colonel Igor Epler, PhD in engineering, accepted to be the godfather for the next year’s celebration.



The Saint Patron’s Day (Slava) of the Military Academy, University of Defence, has being celebrated on the day of the feast of the Intercession of Theotokos (Pokrov Presvete Bogorodice) since the time of Aleksandar Obrenović. Nowadays’ chapel of the Military Academy, University of Defence is dedicated to the feast of the Intercession of Theotokos (Pokrov Presvete Bogorodice), and it was consecrated by Serbian Patriarch Irinej (Gavrilović) on 26 January 2014.

This lovely holiday is being celebrated in the memory of the miracle which occurred in the church Vlaherna in Istanbul when the Mother of God appeared during the liturgy as the gift to the people gathered for the prayer. Namely, the city was surrounded by enemies who withdrew from Istanbul fortress the morning after the miracle, and the city remained unconquered, said His Holiness bishop of Liplje Dositej (Radivojević).
