Strengthening Regional Cooperation of the University of Defence

On March 23, 2012, at the Rectorate of the University of Defence, the Rector of the University of Defence, Lieutenant General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić and the Rector of the International University of Brčko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Velimir Sotirović, signed an Agreement on Cooperation between these two higher education institutions.
The agreement was signed for a period of three years and includes cooperation in all areas of university education and academic practices, the possibility of establishing joint study programs, mobility of students, mutual engagement of teachers and joint participation in scientific research projects.
According to General Jevtić, in preparation for the signing of the agreement, the interests of potential partnership that could be a significant quality in further progress of scientific research in this region were taken into consideration. The agreement will also enable the fulfillment of obligations set out in the Bologna process especially when it comes to the mobility of professors and students, as well as cooperation on research projects. Although the youngest and smallest state university, the University of Defence is well accepted in the academic community of the Republic of Serbia and it is the driver of the new initiatives within the Conference of the Universities of the Republic of Serbia (KONUS). The International University of Brčko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina, can also find its place there, through further development of regional cooperation –   General Jevtić said.
Professor Sotirović pointed out that all 7 faculties within the International University of Brčko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the University itself, are accredited. He stressed the need to consider the modalities of cooperation in the development and implementation of joint study programs, cooperation in the field of publishing activities for the need of students, teaching and scientific work, as well as in the exchange of teaching staff, in particular in the field of medicine, management, security and forensics. He pointed out that the working groups for coordination and development of annual plans of cooperation between our two universities will soon be formed.
Besides Professor Sotirović, the delegation of the International University of Brčko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina, included Prof. Dr. Branislav Egić, Vice-Rector for science and Prof. Dr. Vojkan Zorić, coordinator for international and inter-university cooperation.
