Cooperation between Universities of Defence of Serbia and Czech Republic

A University of Defence delegation, lead by Rector Major-General Prof Dr Miodrag Jeftic, was on a working visit to the University of Defence of the Czech Republic in Brno, between 11 and 13 October, 2011. The Rector was accompanied by the Military Academy Commandant Brigadier General Prof Dr Mladen Vuruna and Vice Rector for interuniversity and international cooperation Colonel Prof Dr Goran Dikic.

The guests from Serbia were warmly welcomed by Rector of the University of Defence in Brno Brigadier General Prof Dr Rudolf Urban, Vice Rector for international cooperation Colonel Prof Dr Jaroslav Pruha, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Colonel Dr Vladan Holcner, Dean of the Faculty of Military Technologies Colonel Prof Dr Zdenjek Vintr, and Vice Dean of Military Medical Faculty in Hradec Kralove Prof Dr Roman Blanas with his associates.

During the visit, possibilities of enhancing the early established cooperation between the units of higher education of both Universities were discussed. Brigadier General Urban in his address especially emphasized that the Universities of Defence in Brno and Belgrade were a unique example of such universities in Europe.

At the beginning of the visit, Major General Jevtic thanked Prof Urban and his associates on advice and direct assistance in the process of constituting our University of Defence, which had opened considerable possibilities for development of new forms of cooperation within the framework of bilateral relations between the Ministries of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Republic of Serbia, and created conditions for joint activities within the framework of cooperation with other universities.

The hosts informed our delegation in detail on the organization of work, results and problems they faced in everyday work. During the visit, our delegation was given an opportunity to get familiar with the work environment and inspect laboratories of all three faculties, and talked to the management and teaching staff of the University of Defence.

The general impression is that it is a well organized University with harmonized and practically applicable European standards which, provided focused commitment on our part, can also be achieved by our units of military higher education.

A number of activities of common interest were proposed to be performed in 2012. A special attention was given to mobility of the cadets/students and teachers, as well as to possible cooperation in the domain of activities of the Military Academy and Military Medical Faculty of both Universities of Defence in the filed of higher education and research and scientific work.
