University of Defence Cadet Parliament Established

The constituting session of the Cadet Parliament of the University of Defence was held on 15th December, 2011, at the Rectorate of the University of Defence. The session was chaired by Rector of the University of Defence Major General Prof Dr Miodrag Jeftić. In addition to 15 cadets, who were candidates for the members of the Cadet Parliament, and Rector, Vice Rector Colonel Prof Dr Jan Marček, General Secretary Colonel Slobodan Kisić, Vice Dean of the Military Academy Prof Dr Boban Đorović, and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy Prof Dr Tihomir Ilić also took an active part in this session.

In his opening address, Rector welcomed all who attended the session and briefly presented the past activities of the University of Defence in a chronological order to the cadets. He explained to them that the University integrates functions of the units of higher education it consists of, namely the Military Academy and the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy, in such a way that it implements common policy aimed at continuous development of higher education and improvement of teaching process, professional development of young researchers and scholars through introduction of cadets into scientific and research work, as well as creation of conditions for unhindered operation and further development of the University.

 

The University Cadet Parliament is a body representing all the cadets of the University, through which they can achieve their rights and protect their interests at the University. Establishment of this body is a precondition for the cadets’ representative to join the Student Conference of the Universities of Serbia (SKONUS), which is students’ highest representative body. This is also another contribution to the harmonization of the military educational process with the academic community in the Republic of Serbia. Rector especially highlighted the significance of this constituting session considering that a university body, which may be appropriate to organization of any university, was being established as part of the process of defence system reforms. 

At the end of his opening speech, Rector announced another novelty that had to do with the establishment of a Cadet Research Centre, with a vision of enhancing the quality of scientific and research work at the University of Defence.

In compliance with the adopted agenda, after election and reports by the Verification Committee, the Cadet Parliament of the University of Defence was verified as being composed of the following cadets:

 

 

 

1.      Cadet Viktor Vereš from the Military Academy,

2.      Cadet  Knežević Miloš  from the Military Academy,

3.      Cadet Emilija Cvetanović from the Military Academy,

4.      Cadet Marko Kostić from the Military Academy,

5.      Cadet Vladimir Timotijević from the Military Academy,

6.      Cadet Dušan Rudović from the Military Academy,

7.      Cadet Jelena Šulić from the Military Academy,

8.      Cadet Stefan Zlatičanin from the Military Academy,

9.      Cadet Dušan Savić from the Military Academy,

10.  Cadet Branislav Bosić  from the Military Academy,

11.  Cadet Miloš Vasković from the Military Academy,

12.  Cadet Irena Gočobija from the Military Academy,

13.  Cadet Goran Savić from the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy,

14.  Cadet Boris Malagurski from the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA, and

15.  Cadet Jelana Katić from the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA.

The Cadet Parliament of the University of Defence has 15 members: 12 cadets from the Military Academy, and three cadets from the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy. They have been elected for a one-year term, starting from the date of the establishment of the Parliament.

Later during the session, candidates for leadership of the University of Defence Cadet Parliament were appointed and then unanimously elected:

1.      Cadet Viktor Vereš from the Military Academy for President of the University of Defence Cadet Parliament

2.      Cadet Jelana Katić from the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA for Vice-President

3.      Cadet Branislav Bosić from the Military Academy for Secretary

Cadet Vladimir Timotijević from the Military Academy was unanimously elected for Vice Rector of the University of Defence. During his term, he will be actively coordinating and cooperating with the Rectorate. An office in the Rectorate building has already been allocated to Cadet Vice Rector.

The following cadets were elected for the representatives of the Cadet Parliament in the Council of the University:

1.      Cadet Viktor Vereš from the Military Academy, because of his appointment as President,

2.      Cadet Goran Savić from the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA, and

3.      Cadet Dušan Savić from the Military Academy.

Jelena Šulić was elected a member of the Quality Assurance Committee on behalf of the Military Academy, while the prospective candidate from the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA will be verified later on.

The following cadets were elected to participate in the work of the Senate and Professional Councils of the University of Defence, when issues relevant to cadets are discussed:

1.      Cadet Miloš Knežević from the Military Academy,

2.      Cadet Marko Kostić  from the Military Academy,

3.      Cadet Đorđe Obradović from the Military Academy,

4.      Cadet Nikola Jovanović from the Military Academy, and

5.      Cadet Boris Malagurski the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA.

During this session, drafts of Rules of Procedure and Book of Regulations on operation of the University of Defence Cadet Parliament were discussed and unanimously adopted.

At the end of the session, Rector of the University stressed once again the importance of establishment of the Cadet Parliament, which has expanded the options for protection of interests and rights, provided that the needs are articulated in an appropriate way. At the same time, this approach carries more responsibility for cadets for further improvement of educational and research processes in the defence system.

At the closing of the constituting session, President of the Cadet Parliament of the University of Defence and Cadet Vice Rector of the University of Defence addressed the participants and expressed their gratitude to their colleagues for the trust placed in them, promising full commitment to active work on issues and tasks to be assigned to them in the following period.
