Second Session of University of Defence Senate

13. 01. 2012

On 12.01.2012, the second regular session of the Senate was held in the University Rectorate. The session was chaired by Rector of the University of Defence Major General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić.
During the session, the drafts of Book of Rules specifying the conditions and modes of engaging visiting professors and Book of Rules specifying the conditions and procedures for honorary doctorate award at the University of Defence were adopted. In addition, the members of the Senate were informed on the Constituting Session of the Cadet Parliament held at the University of Defence.

In accordance with Article 49 of the Statute of the University of Defence, Rector of the University of Defence, Major General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić, launched the initiative to award retired Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Rudolf Urban, Rector of the University of Defence of the Czech Republic, with the honorary doctorate to be conferred by the University of Defence in Belgrade. Explaining his initiative General Jevtić pointed out, ‘Professor Rudolf Urban has unselfishly assisted in transferring the experience acquired through the reforms to the Czech military education system and the accreditation of study programmes. This experience was made available to us during several visits to the University of Defence in Brno by our delegations and visits by Rector of the University of Defence and his associates to the Military Academy and Military Medical Academy. Professor Urban and his colleagues have organized a number of seminars at the Military Academy. In addition, through cooperation with the Management of the Military Medical Academy, there has been exchange of researchers followed by the initiative to organize joint doctoral studies in the area of medical sciences. The existence of a hospital within the Military Medical Academy, which the Faculty of Medicine of the Czech University does not have, has been noted as a competitive advantage of the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy. All these activities have provided a considerable support to the recognition of the idea of establishing the University of Defence in Belgrade’.
Appreciating the contribution made by Professor Urban to the development of the University of Defence in Belgrade, General Jevtić proposed that on 24.02.2012, which is the Day of the University, Prof. Urban should be awarded the honorary doctorate, as a token of recognition. The Senate members accepted this initiative by Rector of the University of Defence unanimously.
During the session, the Senate members were informed on the activities regarding harmonization of the Statute of the units of higher education, i.e. MA and MMA, with the main general act of the University of Defence. The plan for the following activities at the Rectorate was defined comprising the preparation and staging of the joint session of the professional councils from all three defined fields of work, as well as the constituting session of the Senate of the University of Defence scheduled for 31.12.2012.
These activities practically mark the end of constitution, academic, normative and construction efforts which have enabled the University of Defence to become an integral part of the academic community in the Republic of Serbia, ready to operate and work on accomplishment of the goals and tasks set on its establishment by the Government of the Republic of Serbia on 24.02.2011.
