University of Defence delegation visited institutions of military education in R. of Austria

A delegation of the University of Defence consisting of Rector Lieutenant-General Prof Dr Miodrag Jeftić, Vice Dean for international and interuniversity cooperation Colonel Prof Dr Goran Dikić and Chief of National Defence School Colonel Mile Jelić paid a working visit to the Academy of National Defence and the Military Academy of the Republic of Austria from 28th March to 30th March 2012.
The delegation of the University of Defence was received by the top officials of the military education institutions of the Republic of Austria, led by the Commandant of the Academy of National Defence Lieutenant-General Erich Csitkovits. A warm welcome was followed by three day intensive activities, including talks and agreements relating to establishment and enhancement of the cooperation between the two Ministries of Defence in the area of higher education and scientific and research work. The hosts presented in detail the organization of work and the visions for the future of military education development in the Republic of Austria to our delegation.
Brigadier Generals Gerhard Herke, Rene Segur-Cabanc and Norbert Gehart made an active contribution by providing an insight into the problems that the Military Academy and the Academy of National Defence face in their work related to the processes of military higher education.
During the visit, our delegation also held presentations in which they inform the hosts in an appropriate manner on the chronology of the activities relating to the establishment of the University of Defence and the results achieved in the process of the reforms to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia. Our experiences and results were positively evaluated by the hosts, who are going through the initial phase of the reforms aiming at the formation of the University of Defence in the upcoming period.
Both parties expressed their willingness to widen the scope of their cooperation in the domain of military education, participation in conferences and projects in the area of the military education curricula development.
The discussion also tackled the subject of mobility of teachers and cadets, and in this vein a delegation of cadets from the Military Academy of Austria was invited to take part in the Cadet Week and Exercise Diplomac (Graduate) of the Military Academy at the end of June this year.
The two parties discussed the Austrian support to our Euro-integration process and the possibility of getting involved into the programmes of the European Security and Defence College.
During the visit we were given the opportunity to get to know the work conditions in Theresian Military Academy and National Military Academy. Throughout our stay in the Republic of Austria, our delegation enjoyed the strong support of Colonel Eng. Mathias Ivancsits, who had completed the General Staff advanced course at the National Defence School of the Armed Forces of Serbia.
