Slovenian Defence Minister Ljubica Jelusic visiting Rector of the University of Defence

Prof Dr Miodrag Jeftic, the Rector of the University of Defence in Belgrade, met Ms Ljubica Jelusic, the Slovenian Minister of defence, in the Rector’s Office at the University of Defence today. The goal of the visit was to inform the Minister of defence about the changes in the military educational system of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and establishment of the University of Defence in Belgrade. The visit provided the opportunity for the discussion on the possibilities of development of the bilateral cooperation in the field of military education.
Thanking for the visit, General Jeftic pointed out that it was the first visit by a foreign minister of defence to our University of Defence. He emphasized the importance of the visit, given its character of not being just formal, but also fruitful, paving the way for a possible development of concrete forms of cooperation. Stressing the significance of the establishment of the University of Defence in Belgrade, as the eighth state university, and implications and changes induced by that event, he presented the current activities on creation of the constitutional acts and bodies of the University. He noted that Mr Dragan Sutanovac, the Minister of defence, was giving the full support to this process. The Rector also said that in the following phase the Military Technical Institute, the Military Geographic Institute, and the Strategic Research Institute would be included in the University of Defence. Pointing out that international cooperation would be one of the most important functions in the University’s future activities, he expressed the expectations that the cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of military education would intensify and widen in the following period. He mentioned that the Head of the Strategy Department of the Military Academy had visited Slovenia and gave lectures to the students of Command and Staff course of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and that two students of the School of National Defence were currently participating in a staff exercise of the Slovenian Armed Forces. After this, General Jeftic presented to the guests the structure and characteristics of the University of Defence in Belgrade.
Having been informed in detail on the structure, tasks and characteristics of the University of Defence, the Minister of defence of the Republic of Slovenia expressed her serious interest in development of cooperation in the field of military education. In this respect, the cooperation in executing the planned activities in the field of military education in 2011, when a candidate from Slovenia was expected to be sent to study at the University of Defence in Belgrade, was also discussed.
